چکیده
This study reports the biochemical, immunological, and morphological characteristics of the abnormal mononuclear cells from four patients with leukemic reticuloendotheliosis. Two patients had a homogeneous population of mononuclear cells with elevated thymidine incorporation, normal uridine incorporation, suboptimal or delayed response to phytohemagglutinin and a characteristic ultrastructure. Glucose utilization by these cells was somewhat greater than that by normal lymphocytes, but considerably less than that by normal monocytes and macrophages. The leukemic cells from both of these patients had surface-bound immunoglobulin. In contrast, the disease of the other two patients was characterized by a heterogeneous population of mononuclear cells with normal thymidine and uridine incorporation, normal or increased response to phytohemagglutinin, and a paucity of surfacebound immunoglobulin. All four patients had low levels of serum muramidase. The aforementioned two patients had elevated leukocyte counts while the latter two patients had normal or low values. Attempts to establish long-term cultures were unsuccessful. All four patients appeared to have lymphoproliferative processes.

Leukaemic reticuloendotheliosis: a morphological and immunological study of four cases.
Morphological and immunological studies of four cases of leukaemic reticuloendotheliosis are reported. The findings indicate that leukaemic reticuloendotheliosis is a monoclonal B cell neoplasm in which the leukaemic cell expresses either Kappa or lambda light chain and delta heavy chain determinants. The similarity between this disease and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia is discussed.

We purified acid phosphatase isoenzyme 5b from a human spleen affected by leukemic reticuloendotheliosis and used it to produce a specific antiserum. The antiserum was used to show complete immunological identity among isoenzymes 5a and 5b in human serum, and 5b isolated from a giant-cell bone tumor and from the spleen of a case of Hodgkin's disease. Acid phosphatase 5b in a giant-cell bone tum...

EUKEMIC reticuloendotheliosis is a malignant condition characterized by generalized proliferation of the reticulum cells and their derivatives which appear in the peripheral blood.’4 This condition was first recognized by Ewald in 1923,’ and since then many other reports have appeared. Mitus et al.5 have presented histochemical findings in these cells. Rabinowitz and Schrek6 and Schrek and Donn...
متن کاملBiochemical characterization of the tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase of human spleen with leukemic reticuloendotheliosis as a pyrophosphatase.
A tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase was isolated from a human leukemic spleen by freeze-thawing in saline and purified by repeated chromatography on carboxymethyl-cellulose. The purified enzyme has a molecular weight of 64 000. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of inorganic and organic pyrophosphate as well as the phenolic ester of monoorthophosphate, with optimal activity between pH 5 and 6. Howev...

The immunological similarity between human tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (EC 3.1.3.2) and porcine uteroferrin previously reported for the isoenzyme from spleens of patients with leukemic reticuloendotheliosis (Ketcham et al., J Biol Chem 1985;260:5768-76) has been confirmed for partly purified acid phosphatase found in the spleen of a patient with Gaucher's disease, and for the correspond...
